Most people have a general idea that a vegetarian diet is more healthy for them in many ways, but few realize how important it is to create a healthy environment in the bowels and stomach.

Our digestive system is designed to process vegetable matter, more than foods containing animal products. Our system needs the kind of dietary fiber contained in vegetables, legumes, nuts and fruits to function properly.

When the digestive system does not function effectively as it should do, we incur a host of digestion problems such as constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis (inflammation of the colon, the usual symptoms are diarrhea). These diseases are less evident in people following vegetarian eating habits than in others who persist with a meat-eating lifestyle.

A vegetarian diet is naturally low in saturated fat, high in fiber, vitamins and antioxidants, that help to prevent cancer. R

ecent studies that included tens of thousands of men and women have shown that regular meat consumption increases colon cancer risk by roughly 300 percent. Meat-based diets have also been linked to other forms of cancer including breast, ovarian and prostate. When you consider the risks that come from a diet that includes meat and animal products, then compare the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle, there is no doubt that the health benefits derived from vegetarian meals are life prolonging.

If you find it difficult to cut meat from your diet altogether, try making it the smallest part of the meal with greater portions of vegetables. In this way you will gradually reduce the amount of meat you crave and eventually will be able to totally eliminate it from your diet.

There are many recipes you can obtain to educate yourself in the art of vegetarian cooking so that you will be able to create meals that are delicious, healthy and energizing. You’ll soon be wondering why you haven’t made the change sooner!

Lacto-ovo-vegetarian is the most common category or type of vegetarian diet. It is the most general and liberal of the types. Many people don’t realize that saying someone is a vegetarian doesn’t really give much clarity. OK. Someone doesn’t eat meat. So what does that person eat?

Simply put, the lacto-ovo vegetarian diet means that meat is not eaten. That means no beef, veal, pork, or venison, etc. Poultry and birds are not eaten. That means no chicken, turkey, or any other birds such as pheasant. Fish and other sea foods are not eaten. That means no lobster, shrimp, tuna, other sea foods – or even octopus.

So what foods are allowed on a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet?

Lacto refers to milk. Milk and milk products are unlimited except by health concerns. Milk, of course, is self explanatory. All forms of cheese are allowed. Ice cream is okay. Cheese and vegetarian pizzas are fine.

Ovo refers to eggs. Eggs may be eaten in all forms and are allowed in limits dictated by health concerns. Omelettes, quiche, noodles, mayonnaise, and cakes are all included in the ovo vegetarian diet..

Health conscious lacto-ovo vegetarians eat a diverse diet rich in nutritious foods untasted by mainstream omnivores. Those lacto-ovo vegetarians unconcerned about their health eat the typical fast food diet without the meat, eg, a veggie burger with fries and soda.

The concern for all vegetarians including lacto-ovo vegetarians is covert or hidden animal products. For example, chicken fat is added to many, many processed foods for additional flavor. Vegetarians read labels. If you’re going to feed a vegetarian and you’re preparing a meal, please do read the label on the product.

If the vegetarian diet is either lacto or ovo, but not lacto-ovo, then either the eggs or milk products are eliminated according to type. Once again, labels need to be read because of the many processed foods that contain unexpected milk products and eggs.

The word vegetarian is one that has become somewhat vague among the general population because too many people have inappropriately adopted it as a label for their lifestyle. Vegetarian is a blanket term used to describe a person who does not consume meat, poultry, fish, or seafood. A vegetarian is someone who avoids meat and, to some extent, products derived from animals. A strict vegetarian is called a vegan. Vegans are more vigilant about avoiding any product derived from animals including clothing, shoes, and accessories.

Ovo-lacto vegetarians are vegetarians who do not consume meat, poultry, fish, and seafood, but do consume eggs and milk. Ovo-vegetarian is a term used to describe someone who would be a vegan if they did not consume eggs. Lacto-vegetarian is a term used to describe someone who would be a vegan if they did not consume milk.

What is a Vegan

Vegan is the strictest sub-category of vegetarians. Vegans differ from all the other types of vegetarians as they eat only plant based foods and consume no animal products of any kind. Vegans eat no animal products, no meat, fish or poultry, no eggs or dairy. Vegans eat grains, beans, and soy products in order to get their protein. They can get calcium from foods such as tofu, kale, broccoli, sunflower seeds, dried figs, and tortillas.

Vegetarians Can Be Very Health

Numerous epidemiological and clinical studies have shown that vegetarians are nearly 50 percent less likely to die from cancer than non-vegetarians. For many of the same reasons, vegetarians are at a lower risk for osteoporosis. Many legumes, beans, lentils, and nuts provide enough protein and minerals for our health needs and vegetarians know this. However, just because you cut out meat doesn’t automatically make you healthy. There are some unhealthy vegetarians out there. They are called “junk-food vegetarians” because while they don’t eat meat, some will eat potato chips, french fries, and snack foods. Even though these foods don’t technically contain meat, they aren’t good for you. Vegans and vegetarians are less likely to get diabetes or have gall bladder problems and gallstones and it has been proven that vegetarians are less likely to have cholesterol and high blood pressure problems. Vegetarians are also less prone to obesity. Being vegetarian is actually very conducive to an athletic lifestyle.

Becoming a vegetarian is a blanket term used to describe a person who does not consume meat, poultry, fish, or seafood. And, on the whole, vegetarians are less likely to be afflicted with the chronic diseases that are leading killers and cripplers in societies where meat is the centerpiece of the diet. Medical studies have shown that vegetarians are less likely to suffer from heart disease, cancer, diet-related diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure, so a vegetarian diet is very good for your health. So if you want to get healthy without taking a lot of pills or having to go to the gym seven days a week, one place to start is by giving up all meat, poultry, fish, or seafood. One final reason to be vegetarian is the animal rights aspect.

What is a vegetarian?

There are roughly three types of vegetarian.

Vegans or strict vegetarians exclude all animal products (e.g. meat, poultry, fish, eggs, milk, cheese, and other dairy products). Many vegans also do not eat honey.

Lactovegetarians exclude meat, poultry, fish, and eggs but include dairy products.

Lacto-ovovegetarians exclude meat, poultry, and fish but include dairy products and eggs. Most vegetarians in the US are lacto-ovovegetarians.

My story:

In 2002 I “converted” to a full blood vegetarian. I did live like most other teenagers back then; loads of junk food, pizzas and cola.

One of my good friends and I made a bet after a discussion one night, about meat. We agreed that I should be a vegetarian for one month. I completed that one month, and after that another and another. I was sold.

Its almost six years ago I started my new life, and boy, do I recommend vegetarianism to others. It’s probably the best choice I had ever made. But enough said about me…

Why do people become vegetarian?

There are several reasons for someone becoming vegetarian. The most common are

Sympathy for animals. Health reason. Weight problems. A combination of the above.
What are the benefits of becoming a vegetarian?

Depending on how strict your vegetarian diet will be, there are many benefits on cutting out meat and dairy product.

You will most likely discover that your weight will drop down (or up) to your ideal weight. And this will happen without you thinking about it. It is very hard to eat to much calories when you cut out meat, milk and many types of candy (which contains dairy products and galantine).

You will very soon begin to feel more energetic and less full after meals. My own experience was that I felt that the foods gave me energy instead of taking it away. I had less ups and downs coming from the bloodsuckers raise and fall.

Are there any disadvantages of being vegetarian?

I would say that there are any real disadvantages of becoming a vegetarian. But you really have to watch your protein intake. But don’t worry; there is protein in lots of natural food besides meat.

Protein in vegetarian diets.

These are the top five very best sources for protein;

***** Peas (8 grams of protein pr. 100 gram) Baked Beans (5 grams of protein pr. 100 gram) Tofu (7,5 grams of protein pr. 100 gram) Lentils (7,5 grams of protein pr. 100 gram) Soya milk (8 grams pr.

These are the top five very best sources for protein;

***** Peas (8 grams of protein pr. 100 gram) Baked Beans (5 grams of protein pr. 100 gram) Tofu (7,5 grams of protein pr. 100 gram) Lentils (7,5 grams of protein pr. 100 gram) Soya milk (8 grams pr.

A healthy vegetarian diet is easy to keep and prevents from attacks by a lot of diseases that come with the consumption of meat; whether white or red meat. A vegetarian is an individual that does not partake of meat or its products. However, some vegetarians may eat animal products.

There are varying types of vegetarians. Those vegetarians that do not eat meat but consume animal products are called lacto-ovo vegetarians, those that do not consume meat but will gladly ingest dairy products are called lacto vegetarians or the vegans that keep off animal products. These are just a few types of vegetarians. They are a dime dozen other types.

The benefits of keeping a healthy vegetarian diet are vast. Many people have their own different reasons for turning vegetarian. In a nut shell however, a vegetarian diet makes for a healthy living. It keeps you from eating meat and you can as well still find alternative products that will give you the same nutrients as meat.

Therefore, a healthy vegetarian diet will strive to offer a lifestyle rich in consumption of iron, and other essential vitamins like D and B12. A vegetarian diet will hence focus on alternative products to meat. Vegetarians will consume carbohydrates for their energy needs. Their essential vitamins will come from a diet rich in mineral components like iron, zinc, calcium and many others.

A healthy vegetarian diet keeps you from the immediate danger of serious diseases like obesity. But it is a commitment and a decision an individual and has to stick with them.

If you make a decision to go vegetarian, you are making a choice to eat and live on a diet based on food extracts from plants like fruits, vegetables obviously, and other many plant foods. A vegetarian diet will consist of more fiber and less fat because vegetarians have basically decided that they are not going to eat meat.

Prevent attacks by diseases like stroke, heart attacks, and kidney ailments amongst others eating a healthy diet whether vegetarian or not. Eating healthy is a choice we make and is very beneficial to our lives.

to clarify

Vegetarianism is the practice of living on products of the plant kingdom, with or without the use of eggs and dairy products, but excluding entirely the consumption of any part of the body of an animal as food (including chicken, fish and seafood). The term “vegetarian” means a person who follows such practice, or describes such a person, creature, establishment or food pertaining to vegetarianism.

broken down

Often broken down further into OVO-LACTO, and LACTO. Vegetarians may or may not try and minimize their non food use of animals like vegans.

Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian: also eats eggs and milk products. This is the most ‘popular’ form of Vegetarianism in many Western countries..

Lacto Vegetarian: Same as VEGAN, but also eats milk products.

Vegan: excludes animal flesh (meat, poultry, fish and seafood), animal products (eggs and dairy), and usually excludes honey and the wearing and use of animal products (leather, silk, wool, lanolin, g
all questions end up in the food and drink sectoin, and then are broken down to sub catagories .. i guess it must just be people not reading the whole thing.

I’ve always struggled with what some people refer to as ‘food addictions’, and I’ve struggled with food from a health perspective even before I was vegetarian. After being vegeterian for a while, I decied to go vegan for animal industry/health, etc, etc. reasons. I’ve eaten this way for about a year, but whenever my self control gets out of hand as far as caring about my health, controling weight, and binging goes, the caring about whether certain foods contain animal products starts to slowly slip up too. It’s not like I’m chomping down on chicken burgers, but I just feel I need to get back on track.
Forgive my rambling, I don’t know what kind of responses I’m even really looking for…can anyone relate? Been there, done that? Advice?
Thanks a heap!

For all the people out there that are vegetarien/vegan, why are you. Some people say that becuase animals are not ours to eat. Have anyone heard of the food chain, animals eat other animals. We humans have simply developed ways to improve our bodys by utilising tools including our most important tool, the control of fire, by using these tools we have expanded our range of foods to a greater variety, including large animals.
It seems that alot of what people are implying is that humans farmed animlas are inhumnane while animals killed in the wild by other animals is even better.

Living all your life in fear of predators and when you are finally atacked and killed you suffer a hordensly painfull death.

I have seen a video of wild animals eating a sheeps kidenys and leaving it for days to die a painfull death.

So that is right because the wild animals eat meat to survive.

What I belive is that the animal products that our ancestors ate help us evolve.

Honestly if we didnt have the urge to eat meat then there would be no need to develop tools to hunt, we wouldnt have even survived in the colder european climates that we ate and weared animals to survive.

So not to seem like Im rambling on but isnt the europeans the ones that led to our important technologcal advances, so therefore if you wanted to lead a true animal friendly lfiestlye then you would have to abandon the result of human kind.
