Don’t Be a Junk Food Vegetarian


Research studies are showing that following a vegetarian eating plan can improve your health, but many people approach a vegetarian lifestyle wrong. This article is going to help you to correct the mistakes that you may be following in your vegetarian eating plan.

The biggest mistake the vegetarians make is that they focus their eating habits around processed, sugary foods. Instead of eating meats, they choose to eat potato chips, sodas, candy, and other junk food. It is good that they are decreasing their meat consumption, but instead of replacing it with junk food they should be focusing their eating around healthy foods that can provide the nutrients that they need.

For example, cutting out meat will decrease your protein intake, so it is necessary to replace it with another protein source. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, beans and legumes, and whole grains will provide your body the building blocks that it needs (amino acids) in order to build the proteins that are necessary for healthy living.

Another mistake that vegetarians often make is by focusing too much of their eating habits around soy based foods. These foods are not the best health food, because many of them are highly processed and studies are showing that high levels of soy may cause hormonal imbalances.

So, if you are transitioning to a vegetarian diet (or you may already be vegetarian), don’t make the mistake of eating junk food and soy products all the time. Instead, focus your eating around healthy, natural foods that can be found in the produce section at the grocery store. Also make sure that you are getting a variety of whole foods, because they all contain different vitamins and nutrients that are necessary for health.

A well balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains is the best way to eat!
