I didn’t know what to day,any suggestions?

I am not a vegeterian and my friend told me what another friend told her: If vegeterians love animals so much,how come they eat all their food ? (meaning plants). I just stood there and then laughed (?)
Actually,I didn’t know what to say/answer. Any ideas?
