I am new at being a vegeterian and I do not want to be iron deficient like many, or not be getting enough protien. What are some good foods besides meat, that are iron or protien rich?

Kidney beans have high protein, but be carefull because you can also have too much protein. Brocolli and basically all green beggies have tons of iron.

Foods high in protein include tofu, tempeh, TVP, beans, nuts, seeds, soy milk, some vegetables (such as broccoli, asparagus, spinach, snowpeas, Brussels sprouts), eggs, and dairy products.

The richest plant sources are dark green vegetables, soy products and legumes, whole grains, dried fruits, nuts and seeds. Cooking with cast-iron pots also contributes to dietary intake. Adding fruits and vegetables high in vitamin C to your meals (such as citrus, peppers, cabbage, broccoli, kale or tomatoes) enhances iron absorption. Foods that decrease absorption include: tea, coffee, milk products, spinach, rhubarb, Swiss chard and chocolate.

What are some foods that are not?
Protein is the building block of life. It’s everywhere.
But, we humans use amino acids to make our own protein. So, what you want to eat is a lot of foods containing amino acids, such as fruit — they are packed full of amino acids.

Iron… all those green leafy plants… iron.
Things such as iron and protein are difficult to avoid. In fact, if you eat a well rounded diet… you’ll get all you need — no need to worry about specific vitamins minerals etc. It’s propaganda that gets into our heads that makes us think of such things. Not long ago nobody knew these things existed and everyone got by just fine for millions of years without knowing about proteins, vitamins, minerals, etc.

a very large portion of veggie foods, like Boca Burgers, Morningstar frozen foods, Amy’s frozen foods, etc. They have lots of meat substitutes that are high in protein and iron. A very good source of protein and very low in calories and fat and boca burgers, and veggie hotdogs ( I cant remember the brand right now) but they are 45 calories, no fat and 9 grams of protein.
