There are plenty of animals to feed the entire world, so killing them isn’t too big a deal. If they were going extinct, then i see your point. Animals are here for us to live

Animals now aren’t usually mistreated before being killed. I think that they are tranquilized, go to sleep, they don’t wake up. I wouldn’t mind dying like that.

You won’t eat meat, but you’ll drink milk?… Mhm… Think about that for just a minute

Make your own decisions! Follow through!

I don’t know what being a girl had to do with any of this…

All in all, if you are firm in your choice, don’t let your Mom sway you to think otherwise! Take vitamins though, because you need the protein from meat to stay healthy.

You can eat dairy if you want, i dont, but thats cuz im allergic, and also because i want to ease into veganism once i move out.

I went veggie at 7 and was not supported but now my family is starting to understand(7years later) my mom gave up red meat and my sister only eats chicken..

Something that helped me when explaining it to my family was to say that even if they were still be killed, I didn’t want them /in/ me.

Yes, U MADE A WONDERFUL CHOICE….I am vegetarian since birth and i love it. just think about everyday you will be saving at least 2 animals….that would mean u would be saving 730 animals in a year and about 55 000 animals in a lifetime…yes you will be eventually saving many animals from being killed. keep going, u have my support!

You can eat your normal dairy poruducts such as milk, cheese, bread, yogurt……..

Yes, you made a great choice.
Tell your mom it’s called ’supply and demand.’ She will have to buy LESS meat now because she won’t be feeding it to you. Therefore less money goes to the companies that slaughter the meat.
You’ll also be healthier because meat is full of hormones, chemicals and pesticides.
You can get all you need from plants, grains, nuts, seeds, and dairy if you choose to consume it. The protein thing that omnivores like to talk about is a myth. Protein is NOT just in meat, it’s in fact in everything that ever lived, and that includes plants. I mean, think about it. Where do you suppose the cows got all that protein from? :)
The only thing you can get from meat that you can’t get from plant foods? Cholesterol. Which is bad stuff and the reason heart disease is the number one killer of North Americans. So you can tell that to your mom too.
Dairy is okay if you are vegetarian. Vegan, however is a different story as they do not consume any animals by-product whatsoever. Including leather, silk, honey, milk, eggs, cheese, etc.
Good luck! I hope your mom chooses to support you. You just have to research it so that you have tons of facts to present to her to show her you are serious and know how to be healthy.

To Karyssa: You’ve read the bible, have you? Shouldn’t you know that God meant us to be vegan?

Yes you did make a good choice. Just stick with it, even if it gets hard. You’ll be glad you did. Animals are mistreated. Did you know most places often scald, slit the necks of, or just simply slaughter animals alive? Without any pain medication or anything? And did you know that chickens and other poultry are often raised in cages where they can’t even move? Or the so-called “free-range” chickens, are often so tightly packed in next to each other that they can’t move, either?

You can still eat dairy products. And eggs.

Good job on saving the lives of many animals a year. People think that someone else is going to eat it. But every person makes a difference.
