I’m a vegetarian and just started for months ago.i still eat stuff like jello, chewy candies, and coke even though they have gelatin. It is hard at first. like i dont like meat much anyways but let me tell ya, fast food still tempts me! ha. but yeah uh eating out at reastraunts can be difficult but it has made my family healthier because they don’t eat fast food as much because i can’t get much there. I still need to find out how to get protein so if you find any ideas let me know. so far i know Peanut butter, hard boiled eggs, and suppliments

I find that it gets easier as you go. And if you’re not becoming a vegan, you can still eat dairy products which much of my diet consists of.

You have to know that you’re making a difference.
Helping to end the suffering of living creatures, becoming healthier, reducing pollution, etc.

It’s one of the few things in my life that I’m proud of.

Good luck and I hope you stick with it.

Don’t be one of those vegetarians that don’t actually eat vegetables. Be open to new foods and new ways of cooking. And definitely get some good cookbooks and experiment. Once you learn how to cook good food, you won’t miss the meat. And homemade meat substitute recipes are better than store bought if you want meat substitutes. I find that Indian and Mediterranean lend themselves to good eating more so than Western foods.

The main thing is to eat a good variety of foods and find some great recipes to try. I became vegetarian and had invested in The Vegetarian Times Cookbook which became by bible. The main things that helped me were meat substitutes like TVP (texturized vegetable protein), soy burgers; soy bacon, etc. Since you are a vegetarian and not vegan, you can utilize cheese and eggs in your meals. These two ingredients make endless combinations of meals like omelets. Hope this helps.

I’ve been a vegetarian going on 11 years. I don’t have the healthiest diet – I just make sure that it doesn’t contain any meat. I’ll eat whatever else I want. I also take a few vegetarian supplements as well. Check out my site for helpful information on this subject and other animal rights issues. Help STOP animal cruelty!!

Being vegetarian is really a simple process of changing eating habits by being aware of what is available. There is nothing mystifying about it but for an easy to read guide and explanation – check out the web site listed below.

I have attempted to take the mystery out of it.

the thing that made it hard for me at first was the fact that everytime i go out to eat, everything on the menu seems to have meat in it! so you are going to want to look up resturants with more vegetarian options. a lot of times these will be ethnic food places…not like tgi fridays or applebees. you can only get salads there. indian food is great, they usually have a whole selection of vegetarian options.

another tip! don’t be snotty about it or people will just make fun of you. just eat what you eat, and if someone wants to engage you in conversation about why, then just state simply why you decided to become veg. it is amazing how many people get offended by your choice of what you decide to put in your body! it’s kindof lame how it has to end up being a political discussion.

it gets way easier with time, because you will start cooking with new recipes and if you like meat replacement items such as tofu, tvp, seitan or whatever, then you will just end up grabbing them at the supermarket instead of meat and won’t even think twice about it.

experiment with new stuff. try out new veggies…stir fry, bbq, boiol, bake, blend veggies…just have fun with it.

OH! Get stuff that is IN SEASON!! It always tastes so much better.

good luck!

Congrats on your decision!! A healthy vegetarian diet includes fruits, veggies, beans, nuts, and grains. Make sure you eat enough calories for your body weight; don’t just eat low-calorie foods like salad. Here are some links with useful information:
