Can a vegeterian eat homemade tortillas?
My boyfriend is vegeterian and I’m not. I cook for friends and recently I had friends over and I made homemade tortillas. He refuses to eat tortillas if he doesn’t know whats in the flour. So is it safe for him to eat one tortilla?

What would be in the flour that isn’t vegetarian? I think either your guy is a little misguided, or maybe you misunderstood. Could it be that he has a gluten sensitivity in addition to being vegetarian? Or maybe he was concerned about what you were filling the tortillas with, or some other ingredients…like, were you using them to make burritos or something (with beef & such), did you use animal fat to cook them, etc.? Anyway, flour *is* vegetarian, unless maybe it has bugs in it, but I’m sure you would’ve checked before using it or noticed otherwise.

sure! I eat tortillas all the time (I’m Mexican)
corn AND flour!
it all depends if you used lard or not in your tortilla making.

flour is vegetarian. You made them, so you should be able to tell him what’s in them. The only way I can think of that would make tortillas not vegetarian, is if you use lard in their preparation.

His concern is most likely lard, or animal fat in the tortillas themselves. Many tortillas are made that way. Some are not. Flour should have absolutely nothing to do with it, as flour is vegetarian

They are safe as long as you didn’t put lard in them. It sounds like he’s being a baby.

I’m a vegetarian and I practically live of of tortillas!

If it’s about the flour, he may be confused and be concerned about bleached flour having bone char in it. However it is sometimes white sugar that has bone char in it, not flour.
The only other concern is what you cook the tortilla in (ie lard). He shouldn’t freak out.
